Give your baby a little TLC.

Show your grill some love with cleaning how-tos from Chris and Mike Peters, grilling experts from the KCBS Great American BBQ Tour. After a long day of splattering her with grimy sauces and greasy meat, your grill deserves a good rub down. And depending on how often you grill, a thorough cleaning every three to six months.

how to clean a charcoal grill

Step 1

The grill should be completely cooled before starting. Remove the grates and clear out the ashes. Some grills have ash catchers; clean out the ash catcher as well. If you don't, use a small gardening tool to scoop out the ashes. Then, CAREFULLY place the ashes in a metal pail. If you toss the ashes, they might spray back up at you!

Step 2

Using a spray-on oven cleanser, clean down the grill grates. Then, spray down all surfaces and let it soak in until the grease has softened.

Step 3

While the oven cleaner is breaking down the grease, let's start tackling the outside. Make a warm water and soap mixture. Clean the outside using the mixture and Scott Shop Towels. Really get in there, hitting all the nooks and crannies.

Step 4

Once the grease inside has come loose, scoop up and remove excess with SCOTT® Shop Towels. Clean away the grease that remains using a mild detergent and water.

Step 5

Rinse out both the inside and outside and wipe dry with the durable blue rags.
